ユーラシア中部・北部および北米大陸中部・北部で繁殖する。冬季はヨーロッパ南部、北アフリカ、中近東、南アジア、東アジア、北アメリカ中部から南部へ渡り越冬する。

Range: breeds in Palearctic (Iceland south to France, east to eastern Siberia) and the Aleutian Islands; winters from southern and central Europe east to Japan, south to Africa (south to Senegambia, Central African Republic, and Kenya), south Asia, and southeast Asia.
旧北区に分布し、アフリカ、インド、東南アジアまで南下して越冬する。

Range: Breeds North America; winters to Mexico and West Indies.
北アメリカに分布し、メキシコ、西インド諸島まで南下して越冬する。
Anas carolinensis Gmelin, 1789 という別種とする説もある。
