インド洋、太平洋南西部、東南アジアのの島々、オーストラリア北部で繁殖する。非繁殖期は周辺海域に広く分布する。

Range: Andaman and Nicobar islands east to eastern China and southern Japan, south through southeast Asia to the Philippines, the Sunda Islands, New Guinea and northern Australia, Micronesia, Melanesia, and west central Polynesia (east to Samoa).
アンダマンとニコバー諸島から中国東部、日本南部、東南アジアからフィリピン、スンダ列島、ニューギニア、オーストラリア北部、ミクロネシア、メラネシア、ポリネシア西部と中部に分布。
2014年10月22日、オーストラリア・ケアンズの沖のミコマスケイで撮影。小さい方が本種、大きい方はベンガルアジサシ。
