Range: tropical southern Asia from India to southern China, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
インドから中国南部、インドネシア、フィリピンの熱帯南アジアに分布。
ヒイロサンショウクイから分離。

(1)亜種 Pericrocotus speciosus semiruber Whistler & Kinnear, 1933
Range: SE India (E Ghats) to s Myanmar, Thailand and n Indochina.
インド南東部からミャンマー南部、タイ、インドシナ北部に分布。

2016年09月26日、タイ・カオヤイ国立公園で撮影。雄です。

2017年01月27日、タイ・ドイアンカーンで撮影。雄です。

(2)亜種 Pericrocotus speciosus insulanus Deignan, HG 1946
Range: Borneo.
ボルネオに分布。

2023年09月06日、ボルネオ・キナバル公園で撮影の雄。

(3)亜種 Pericrocotus speciosus andamanensis Beavan, 1867
Range: Andaman Islands.
アンダマン諸島に分布。

2024年01月29日、インド・アンダマン島ポートブレアで撮影。
